BMX Knee Braces for Riders Who Demand More Support

Explore Össur CTi®3 knee braces for BMX riding — built for riders who need rigid ligament support through jumps, landings, pumping, deep flexion and rapid changes in bike position.

BMX KNEE SUPPORT

Össur CTi®3 Knee Braces for BMX Riders

BMX riding places repeated demands on the knees through pumping, jumping, landing, deep flexion, rapid weight transfer and sudden changes in direction.

Crashes and awkward landings may also expose the knee to rotational, lateral and extension forces. For riders who need more than basic impact protection, a rigid functional knee brace provides a structural frame and hinge system designed to add ligament support.

The Össur CTi®3 is designed to provide functional support for knee conditions involving the ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL.

BUILT FOR BMX MOVEMENT

Support Through Pumping, Jumps & Landings

BMX requires rapid knee flexion, extension and weight transfer while riders absorb landings and control the bike through changing terrain.

RIDING DEMANDS

Why BMX Riders Wear Knee Braces

BMX riding repeatedly loads the knees through standing pedaling, pumping, jumping, landing and rapid changes in body position. Riders also absorb substantial force through the legs when landing transitions or correcting bike position.

During crashes or awkward landings, the knee may be exposed to twisting, lateral loading or hyperextension. For riders who need ligament support, a rigid functional brace can provide more structural control than a soft sleeve or basic knee pad.

Common BMX Knee Demands

  • Jump landings
  • Deep knee flexion
  • Rapid weight transfer
  • Pumping transitions
  • Rotational crash forces
  • Potential hyperextension

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

BMX Knee Brace vs. Knee Pad

BMX knee pads and rigid ligament braces provide different types of protection and support.

01

BMX Knee Pad

A knee pad primarily focuses on direct impact and abrasion protection during falls.

  • Impact protection
  • Abrasion coverage
  • Soft construction
  • Limited ligament stabilization
02

Rigid Ligament Brace

A rigid knee brace adds a structural frame and hinge system designed to provide functional ligament support and controlled knee movement.

  • Rigid structural support
  • ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL support
  • Anatomical hinge movement
  • Extension-control options

RIDING FIT

Test the Brace Through Your BMX Riding Position

Before riding aggressively, test the brace through the movements you normally use on the bike.

Stand on the pedals, move into deep flexion, simulate pumping, pedaling and landing positions, and make sure the brace remains aligned without excessive pressure or movement.

BMX Fit Check

  • Hinges stay aligned with the knee
  • Brace remains secure during deep flexion
  • Pedaling remains comfortable
  • Brace does not shift while pumping
  • No excessive pressure or numbness
  • Full riding stance remains comfortable

FIT MATTERS

Get the Right CTi®3 Size

Correct sizing helps keep the brace properly positioned while pedaling, pumping and landing.

Knee width at the joint line is the primary CTi®3 sizing measurement. Thigh circumference provides an additional fit reference when measurements fall near the boundary between sizes.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

BMX Knee Brace FAQs

Detailed answers about CTi®3 knee braces, BMX riding, ligament support, impact protection, fit and sizing.

What is the difference between a BMX knee brace and a knee pad? +
A BMX knee pad primarily provides impact and abrasion protection during falls. A rigid ligament knee brace uses a structural frame and hinge system designed to provide functional ligament support and controlled knee movement. The CTi®3 bundle options used here combine rigid brace support with additional impact protection.
Is CTi®3 suitable for BMX riding? +
CTi®3 is designed for demanding active use and may be appropriate for BMX riders who need rigid functional ligament support. Correct sizing and alignment are especially important because BMX involves deep flexion, pedaling, pumping, jumping and hard landings.
What is included in the CTi®3 Pair Bundle? +
The Pair Bundle includes one left CTi®3 Knee Brace and one right CTi®3 Knee Brace, plus impact protection accessories for both knees. It is the complete two-knee setup for riders who want bilateral support.

What is included in the Single CTi®3 Bundle? +
The Single Bundle includes one CTi®3 Knee Brace in your selected left or right side, plus the impact protection accessories included with the Single Motocross Edition.

Shop the Single CTi®3 Bundle →
Should I buy the Pair Bundle or Single Bundle for BMX? +
Choose the Pair Bundle when you want CTi®3 support and impact protection on both knees. Choose the Single Bundle when you only need one left or right brace.
Does CTi®3 support the ACL? +
Yes. CTi®3 is designed to provide functional support for knee conditions involving the ACL. Riders returning to BMX after an ACL injury or reconstruction should follow guidance from their surgeon, physician or physical therapist.
Does CTi®3 support the PCL, MCL and LCL? +
CTi®3 is designed to provide functional support for knee conditions involving the ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL. The rigid carbon composite frame provides structural support while the hinge system allows controlled knee movement.
Can I ride BMX with a CTi®3 after ACL reconstruction? +
CTi®3 may be used as a functional ligament brace after ACL injury or reconstruction when appropriate. Wearing a brace does not automatically mean an athlete is ready to return to BMX. Return to riding should be based on medical clearance, rehabilitation progress and functional testing.
Can CTi®3 help limit knee hyperextension? +
CTi®3 can be used with compatible extension stops to limit the permitted extension range of the knee. If a healthcare professional has prescribed a specific range-of-motion restriction, use the configuration they recommend.
Does the BMX setup include impact protection? +
The Pair and Single bundle options linked on this page include impact protection accessories in addition to the rigid CTi®3 brace. This provides front-of-knee coverage along with functional ligament support.
Can I pedal normally while wearing CTi®3? +
CTi®3 is designed to allow knee flexion and extension. Before riding aggressively, test the brace while pedaling and moving through your normal BMX position. It should remain aligned without causing excessive pressure or interfering with your pedal stroke.
Can I bend deeply while wearing CTi®3? +
The CTi®3 hinge system is designed to allow controlled knee flexion. BMX often requires deep flexion during pumping, jumping and landing, so test the brace through your full riding position before a high-intensity session.
Can I wear CTi®3 under BMX pants? +
In many cases, yes, but BMX pants and riding gear vary. Test the brace and impact protection with the exact pants you ride in. The clothing should not push the brace out of alignment or interfere with hinge movement.
Should I wear one CTi®3 or braces on both knees? +
Riders supporting one specific knee may choose the Single Bundle. Riders who want bilateral support can choose the Pair Bundle, which includes one left CTi®3 and one right CTi®3.

View the CTi®3 Pair Bundle →
Is CTi®3 left- and right-side specific? +
Yes. CTi®3 braces are anatomically designed for a specific side. The Pair Bundle includes one left and one right brace. When purchasing the Single Bundle, select the correct side for the knee you want to support.
How tight should my CTi®3 be? +
The brace should be secure enough that it does not noticeably slide or rotate during movement. The hinges should remain aligned with the knee. Straps should not cause numbness, excessive pressure or painful pinching. If the brace must be overtightened to stay positioned, recheck sizing and fit.
How do I choose the correct CTi®3 size? +
Knee width at the joint line is the primary CTi®3 sizing measurement. Thigh circumference can be used as an additional fit reference, particularly when your knee measurement falls close to the boundary between sizes.

View the Complete CTi®3 Sizing & Fit Guide →
What if I am between two CTi®3 sizes? +
Recheck your measurements before ordering. A brace that is too large may migrate during riding, while a brace that is too small may create excessive pressure. Use knee width as the primary sizing reference and compare your other measurements with the complete sizing guide.
Can CTi®3 slide while riding BMX? +
Brace migration can occur when the brace is incorrectly sized, positioned or strapped. If the brace repeatedly moves during pedaling, pumping or jumping, recheck sizing and alignment rather than simply tightening the straps further.
What should I check before riding BMX in CTi®3? +
Confirm that the hinges are aligned with the knee and that the straps and impact protection are securely positioned. Pedal, stand on the bike, move into deep flexion and simulate your normal pumping and landing positions before beginning a full session.
Are replacement CTi®3 straps, liners and pads available? +
Yes. Compatible CTi®3 replacement straps, liners, condyle pads, extension stops, flexion stops and other accessories are available. Inspect wearable parts regularly and replace them when they no longer maintain the intended fit or comfort.

Shop CTi®3 Replacement Parts & Accessories →
How should I clean CTi®3 after BMX riding? +
Remove dirt, dust, sweat and debris after riding, especially around the hinges, straps, pads and impact protection. Follow the manufacturer's care instructions for removable components and allow everything to dry fully before storage.
Can CTi®3 be used for sports other than BMX? +
Yes. CTi®3 is designed for demanding active use and may also be appropriate for motocross, surfing, wakeboarding, pickleball, snow sports and other activities where rigid functional ligament support is needed.
