ÖSSUR CTi®3 FOR SNOW SPORTS

Snow Sports Knee Braces for Skiing, Snowboarding & Snowmobiling

Explore the Össur CTi®3 for snow sports — a lightweight, rigid ligament knee brace designed for athletes who need support through carving, rotation, deep flexion, landings and unpredictable terrain.

WINTER-SPORT KNEE SUPPORT

CTi®3 Knee Braces for Snow Sports

Snowboarding, skiing and snowmobiling expose the knees to different movements, but all three sports can involve substantial flexion, rotation, rapid weight transfer and unexpected forces.

Skiers repeatedly load the knees while carving and changing edges. Snowboarders absorb landings and control rotation through both legs. Snowmobilers use the lower body to absorb terrain while standing, leaning and shifting position on the machine.

The Össur CTi®3 combines a rigid carbon composite frame with anatomically designed hinges and an adjustable strap system designed to provide functional support for knee conditions involving the ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL.

ONE PLATFORM, MULTIPLE SNOW SPORTS

Skiing, Snowboarding & Snowmobiling

Each sport places different demands on the knee, but all can benefit from proper fit and functional ligament support when needed.

01

Skiing

Skiing places repeated lateral and rotational forces through the knees during carving, edge changes, moguls and unexpected terrain changes.

  • Carving forces
  • Edge transitions
  • Deep knee flexion
  • Rotational loading
02

Snowboarding

Snowboarders repeatedly absorb terrain and landings through both legs while controlling board rotation and moving between upright and deeply flexed positions.

  • Jump landings
  • Board rotation
  • Deep crouching
  • Rapid weight transfer
03

Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling often requires riders to stand, lean, absorb rough terrain and shift aggressively from side to side while maintaining control of the machine.

  • Standing riding
  • Terrain absorption
  • Lateral movement
  • Unexpected impacts

BUILT FOR WINTER MOVEMENT

Support Through Rotation, Flexion & Changing Terrain

Snow sports demand rapid lower-body reactions while athletes absorb terrain, control direction and respond to unpredictable forces.

WINTER SPORT DEMANDS

Why Snow-Sport Athletes Use Knee Braces

Snow sports can expose the knee to repeated flexion, rotation, lateral loading and sudden directional changes. Falls can introduce additional twisting or extension forces before the athlete has time to react.

For athletes who need functional ligament support, a rigid knee brace provides a structural frame and hinge system that offers substantially more support than a simple compression sleeve.

Common Snow-Sport Knee Demands

  • Deep knee flexion
  • Rotational forces
  • Lateral loading
  • Jump and terrain impacts
  • Rapid weight transfer
  • Potential hyperextension

The streamlined frame helps reduce unnecessary bulk underneath snow pants, base layers and winter gear.

04

Ligament Support

Designed to provide functional support for conditions involving the ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL.

05

Extension Control

Compatible extension stops can be used to limit the permitted extension range when appropriate.

06

Replaceable Components

Compatible straps, liners, pads and range-of-motion components can be replaced as wearable parts age.

SNOW-SPORT FIT

Test the Brace With Your Winter Gear

Before heading onto the mountain or trail, test the CTi®3 with the pants, base layers, boots and other equipment you normally use.

Move through deep flexion, side-to-side movement and your normal sport stance. The brace should remain aligned without excessive movement, pressure or interference from clothing.

Pre-Sport Fit Check

  • Hinges remain aligned with the knee
  • Brace stays secure during deep flexion
  • Straps remain comfortably positioned
  • No numbness or excessive pressure
  • Winter clothing does not shift the brace
  • Full sport stance remains comfortable

FIT MATTERS

Get the Right CTi®3 Size

Proper sizing helps keep the brace aligned during carving, landings, flexion and repeated changes in body position.

Knee width at the joint line is the primary CTi®3 sizing measurement. Thigh circumference provides an additional fit reference when measurements fall near the boundary between sizes.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Snow Sports Knee Brace FAQs

Detailed answers about CTi®3 use for skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, ligament support, sizing and winter-sport fit.

Can I wear a knee brace while skiing? +
Yes. Some skiers use functional knee braces when additional ligament support is needed. Skiing involves repeated flexion, edge changes, rotation and lateral loading, so proper fit and alignment are important throughout the skiing stance.
Is CTi®3 suitable for skiing? +
CTi®3 is designed for demanding active use and may be appropriate for skiers who need rigid functional ligament support. Its rigid frame and hinge system are designed to provide support while allowing controlled knee flexion and extension.
Can I wear CTi®3 while snowboarding? +
CTi®3 may be used by snowboarders who need functional ligament support. Snowboarding requires deep flexion, rotation, rapid weight transfer and landing control, making correct sizing and brace positioning especially important.
Can CTi®3 be used for snowmobiling? +
CTi®3 may be appropriate for snowmobile riders who need rigid knee support. Snowmobiling can require substantial standing, leaning and lower-body movement while absorbing rough terrain. Test the brace with your normal snowmobile clothing and boots before a full ride.
Does CTi®3 support the ACL? +
Yes. CTi®3 is designed to provide functional support for knee conditions involving the ACL. Returning to skiing, snowboarding or snowmobiling following an ACL injury or reconstruction should be based on guidance from your healthcare professional.
Does CTi®3 support the PCL, MCL and LCL? +
CTi®3 is designed to provide functional support for knee conditions involving the ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL. The rigid carbon composite frame provides structural support while its hinges allow controlled knee movement.
Can CTi®3 help with rotational forces in snow sports? +
A rigid functional knee brace provides more structural support than a soft compression sleeve. This may be useful in sports involving rotation and lateral movement. No brace can eliminate every twisting force or prevent every injury.
Can CTi®3 help limit knee hyperextension? +
CTi®3 can be used with compatible extension stops to limit the permitted extension range of the knee. If a healthcare professional has prescribed a specific range of motion, use the configuration they recommend.
Can I wear CTi®3 after ACL reconstruction? +
CTi®3 may be used as a functional ligament brace following ACL injury or reconstruction when appropriate. Wearing a brace does not by itself determine when an athlete is ready to return to snow sports. Return-to-sport decisions should consider medical clearance, rehabilitation progress and functional testing.
Should I wear one CTi®3 or braces on both knees? +
Athletes supporting one specific knee may choose a single left or right CTi®3. Athletes who want bilateral support can choose the Athlete Edition Bundle, which includes one left brace and one right brace.

Is CTi®3 left- and right-side specific? +
Yes. CTi®3 braces are anatomically designed for a specific side. When purchasing a single brace, select the correct left or right option. The Athlete Edition Bundle includes one brace for each side.
Can I wear CTi®3 under ski or snowboard pants? +
In many cases, yes. Winter clothing varies significantly, so test the CTi®3 with the exact pants and base layers you plan to wear. Clothing should not push the brace out of alignment or interfere with the hinges.
Will CTi®3 work with ski boots or snowboard boots? +
Boot height and leg shape vary by athlete. Put on the brace with your normal base layers, pants and boots and move through your full sport stance. The lower portion of the brace should not create uncomfortable interference with the boot.
Can I bend deeply while wearing CTi®3? +
The CTi®3 hinge system is designed to allow controlled flexion and extension. Snowboarding, skiing and snowmobiling may all require substantial knee flexion, so test the brace through your normal stance before high-intensity activity.
How tight should CTi®3 feel? +
The brace should feel secure enough that it does not noticeably slide or rotate during movement. The hinges should remain aligned with the knee. Straps should not cause numbness, excessive pressure or painful pinching.
How do I choose the correct CTi®3 size? +
Knee width at the joint line is the primary CTi®3 sizing measurement. Thigh circumference can be used as an additional reference, particularly when your measurement falls close to the boundary between sizes.

View the Complete CTi®3 Sizing & Fit Guide →
What if I am between CTi®3 sizes? +
Recheck your measurements before ordering. A brace that is too large may migrate during activity, while a brace that is too small may create excessive pressure. Use knee width as the primary measurement and additional measurements to help confirm fit.
Can CTi®3 slide under winter clothing? +
Brace migration can occur when sizing, positioning or strap placement is incorrect. Base layers and snow pants should not force the brace out of position. If the brace repeatedly moves, recheck sizing and alignment rather than simply tightening it.
What should I check before skiing, snowboarding or snowmobiling? +
Put on the CTi®3 with the same clothing and footwear you plan to use. Confirm that the hinges are aligned, straps are secure and the brace remains positioned through deep flexion, side-to-side movement and your normal sport stance.
Are replacement CTi®3 straps, liners and pads available? +
Yes. Compatible CTi®3 replacement straps, liners, condyle pads, extension stops, flexion stops and other accessories are available. Inspect wearable components regularly and replace them when needed.
